Tip: Double quotation marks are used to open and close quotes or dialogue and to emphasize certain “words”. Single quotation marks are used inside doubles to show quote within a quote. (“I know I said ‘no more’, but that was then and this is different.”)

Thought for the day: “You are always going back and forth between the outline and the writing, bringing them closer together, or just throwing out the outline and making a new one.” – Annie Dillard

Jumpstart: A plotter is someone who roughs out the entire story before writing. A pantster is someone who just sits down and writes without knowing where it’s going. Most of us fall somewhere in between. Which are you? Why? Have you ever tried the other way?
