Countdown to New Jersey

Remember a couple of months ago when I said I needed to write five pages a day in order to have my novel ready to pitch at the New Jersey conference? Welllllll – didn’t happen.

At least, not with that particular novel. But I do have another one – actually another three – that are ready to pitch so that is what I’m going to do. Oh, I could pitch the first one. It’s finished enough that I could submit a partial and more. And it’s plotted out so I know what’s going to happen and when…but it’s not *finished*. And I’m one of those weird people who doesn’t like pitching works that aren’t finished. When I go in to meet with an agent or editor, I want to have the confidence that I know I can send them the complete manuscript. Plus, I know exactly what happens in it – with an unfinished work, things may change (and often do!) when I’m writing – even if I have it planned out. So for me, I have to have it done.

But that doesn’t mean the stories don’t need work. So… one week to the conference and I need to beef up the pitches, get the synopses done and go through them one more time to make sure they’re ready to go.

Time to really get to work!
